Viltė Bražiūnaitė and Tomas Sinkevičius examine CO₂ storage solutions spreading across Europe’s energy sector, from capturing carbon dioxide in industrial processes and temporarily storing it in cryogenic tanks to its final injection into underground geological formations. By exploring this infrastructure, the artist duo seeks to make processes invisible to the naked eye tangible and perceptible.
The digital print series After Bernd and Hilla Becher’s Industrial Landscapes draws on the artistic practice of photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher, who systematically documented the industrial heritage of the twentieth century. Their photographic series, produced between 1960 and 2007, highlight the sculptural qualities of industrial structures, presenting them as testimonies to a disappearing heavy industry. In the landscapes created by Tomas Sinkevičius and Viltė Bražiūnaitė, CO₂ storage tanks become artefacts of their time: forms detached from their original function, entering the collective imagination and becoming part of a landscape shaped by business expectations.
