Sweet Nothings

Beeswax, paraffin, 48 x 35 x 1 cm, 2021

In Sweet Nothings, artist duo Tomas Sinkevičius and Viltė Bražiūnaitė are interested in the issues arising from putting nature to work and its entanglement with human cultural and economic activities.

The artists use beeswax to analyse the shapes created by bees – hexagonal honeycomb structures used for storing pollen and growing communities. In Sweet Nothings, the regular hexagonal honeycomb is replaced with a chain-link engraving. The imprints of chain links act as honeycomb openings where bees can place eggs, pollen and honey. The chain-link imprint on the wax plate also acts as a reference to the links between human beings, nature and technology.
